Your intimate zone

Why is washing with water not enough?

Many women wash their intimate zone with water alone. Water has a cleansing effect but does not protect the natural balance of the intimate zone. Compare it to the rest of your skin – you wouldn’t cleanse, nurture, and protect it with just water, would you?

By using Lactacyd, you help to protect the balance of your intimate zone while also cleansing and refreshing.

What if I experience discomfort and need extra care?

There arespecific times when your intimate zone could use a bit of extra care. Thismay be linked to reduced resistance, irritation, orhormonal fluctuations(such as during menstruation, pregnancy, menopause).

Lactacyd Pharma products are mild, soap-free washing lotions formulated with a pH of 3.5. The pH in Lactacyd products is obtained by the main ingredient, lactic acid, together with the total formulation. This fairly low pH helps to restore the natural balance ofyour intimatezone.

Why use a special product for your intimate zone?

Your vagina produces lactid acid on its own, as a natural protection. Hormonal changes and ‘innocent’ activities such as washing with regular soap or with water alone, wearing tight or synthetic underwear, sex, or even stress can disrupt its natural balance. Lactacyd helps you protect the balance of your intimate zone, while also cleansing and refreshing.

Regular soaps are often alkaline, and have a pH higher than the natural pH of the intimate zone. Therefore, soaps can disrupt the natural balance of your intimate zone by decreasing your natural protection and making you more vulnerable to problems and irritations. Soap can also harm or weaken the protective biofilm.

All Lactacyd products are soap-free and have an adapted pH to match that of your intimate zone.

Is vaginal odor normal, and if not, what can I do about it?

Feminine odor is entirely normal and many women experience it. Normal odors can be caused by sweat, bacteria, and hormonal fluctuations. Daily washing or showering with warm (not hot) water and a mild, non-irritating cleanser such as Lactacyd can help to reduce these odors.

If you have an unusual odor (fishy or very strong), this can be a sign of a vaginal infection.

Should I douche to feel clean and fresh?

No, washing the inside of your vagina is not necessary. The vagina cleanses itself, so there is no need to insert douches or similar products into the vagina. In addition, douching is a risk factor for bacterial vaginosis (BV). You can feel clean and fresh simply by using a mild cleanser with deodorizing agents, such as Lactacyd, to wash the external (vulvar) area.

Is it normal to have vaginal discharge?

Yes, it is normal to have discharge from the vagina. It is the female body’s way of cleansing itself. This is usually heavier and thicker in the middle of the menstrual cycle (around ovulation), and lighter and more watery at other times in the cycle.

Is it normal for women who are not sexually active to experience vaginal discharge?

Yes, all women experience some degree of vaginal discharge due to normal hormone fluctuations. Normal discharge is the body’s way of cleansing itself. If a discharge has an unusually foul, fish-like odor, abnormal color, or a thick curd-like consistency, you should see your doctor – it could be caused by a vaginal infection.

What does vaginal pH balance mean?

The healthy vagina contains both good and bad bacteria. Normally, the good bacteria predominate and they keep the vaginal pH between 3.8 to 4.5 (slightly acidic). But sometimes women go through changes that can cause the bad bacteria to overgrow. When this happens, the bad bacteria proliferate and a vaginal infection may occur. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and yeast infections (Candida) are the most common of these. With BV, the vaginal pH can go up to 6.0, or even higher in some cases. With yeast infections the pH does not change.

Lactacyd products are formulated with a pH of 3.5 or 5.2. The pH in Lactacyd products is maintained by the main ingredient, lactic acid, in harmony with the other components of this special formulation. This fairly low pH does not encourage the growth of the bad bacteria.
